HP ENVY - 15t-as100 CTO
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Using my HP Envy 15t AS100 CTO laptop since 3 years.

Today, I see that the laptop is starting but  the LCD blinks along with power button and then turns off, again it starts and LCD+power buttons blink and this repeats.

Even if I go to BIOS by pressing F10, on BIOS screen also I see same behavior. I tried defaulting the BIOS by F9, no change observed.

Even if an external monitor is connected to laptop (HDMI), then also the LCD monitor flickers.

Is this hardware issue or software driver issue? Hope someone from HP support will respond.

Regards,

Naveen

Almost certainly its hardware. You need to run an UEFI diagnostic on the system. Tap esc as you power up then F2. Focus on memory graphics and hard drive and run the tests.

 Thanks Huffer for the reply.

I tried running UEFI diagnostic, updated BIOS (though the version I had was the latest). Later ran ran diagnostic tests on component and system level. All tests passsed, still the LCD and power button turned on and off, however, I observed that the time between the ON- and OFF had increased to few minutes. I also saw that the system was going into sleep and not turning off. Again when I press the power button, it used to come back to login screen. Not sure what is causing the system to go to Sleep without any action. Then ran cleanup of all system using online diagnostics from hp.com. The time improved of the system going to sleep. Then I opened the laptop, disconnected the battery for some time and connected it back. Ran the online diagnostics and this seems to be doing better by system not going into sleep and holding on. Need to observe this for a day or two and see whether the options I tried worked.

Please let me know why the system was going to sleep mode abruptly.

You did a hard reset so returned BIOS to defaults. So seems it was a BIOS setting but no idea which one.
