Looking to find out if the Samsung 850/860 EVO 500GB m.2 SSD (2280) is compatible with this laptop model. I see in the manual that it does support 256 & 512 m.2 SATA, but I'd like to be sure before ordering it, and attemtpting to open the laptop.

Will I be able to use it as a boot drive?

Yes there is an M.2 slot and you will find it here:

M.2 slot next to batteryM.2 slot next to battery

Manual

Procedure for opening the back cover begins on p. 24. The laptop takes a 2280 form factor SATA-3 M.2 disk and the Samsung 850/860 is a great choice. Yes it can be your boot disk.
