I bought my Envy laptop about a year ago, and recently the fan became very loud. I never take the laptop out of my office and it is a clean environment, so I doubt it is dust. And before I open the case to replace/clean the fan, I want to run some diagnostics to make sure there isn't a software solution. I have updated the bios and installed all other updates.
I have tried running the bios diagnostics but there is nothing in there about the fan. I also tried going into bios setup and found nothing there either. People on the net talk about SpeedFan and HWinfo - however neither of those identified the fan. I've searched here and using Google, to no avail.
Even if I replace the fan, I would like to have a utility available so I can monitor the fan periodically.
Please tell me this is possible.
Regards,
-David

Hey there! @DavidInvenio, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!
I understand you would like to know how to run a fan test on your PC.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?
Please provide the product number of your PC to assist you better.
There is no test the fan that will say "dust/not dust". But if the dust is so bad and if it is stopping the blades from spinning dust can cause the 90B error.
However, there are few third-party applications that you can download and run the fan test on your PC.
You can download a program called speed fan a third party application from Google, which allows you to run fan test on your PC.
Also, Try restoring the BIOS to default and check if it helps.
Turn on your PC keep tapping the F10 key, you will boot into BIOS.
From the main or file menu select restore defaults.
Select F10 to save changes and exit.
Refer this article to troubleshoot System Fan (90b) errors on your PC.
Also, try running a system diagnostics on your PC and check if the hardware components on your laptop are functioning correctly.
Refer this article to know more information about running system diagnostics on your PC.
If the issue still persists after trying out the steps, it is a hardware issue with your laptop.
