HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 15-ds1063cl

Current config 32GB RAM, 1TB Samsung 980 NVMe m.2 drive, Win11

I have a 2TB WD_BLACK SN770 drive, but when I install it in the only NVMe slot available, the computer won't POST. The power light comes on for about 5 sec, goes off for 1 sec, repeat. Holding the power button for 10-15 seconds powers the laptop off when it gets stuck like this.

The drive works in an external case without issue. Am able to partition it, clone the existing 1TB drive to the new 2TB drive, but when I install it into the computer, it won't boot. No errors on the screen, F9 and F10 won't work, can't get to the BIOS or the alternative boot screen. If I try to boot from the imaged 2TB drive while it is in the external case, the I see the Win 11 circle graphic, then a blue screen.

I've upgraded the AMI bios to the latest version (F10 from F07), no change in the behavior.

I've not found anything to indicate that this particular model is incompatible with larger drives, or this drive in particular, but I have upgraded a Lenovo Legion 15 with the same drive without issue.

Thoughts?

Which software did you use to clone. I've been using AOMEI Std for many years (free)  on at least 30 laptops but 3 days ago it did not work, turned out it won't free for GPT disks including M.2 SSD's. I installed Macrium Free  to clone but no luck. At the end I had to use Samsung Data Migration and it works. The first boot gave some sorts of configuration updates and no more problem from the 2nd boot.

My final point: please check your cloning software.

Regards.

Thanks for the response. When I first got the drive, I cloned my existing 1TB NVMe to an image file, as I have done many times in the past, with AOMEI. I installed the new 2TB drive straight out of the package, intending to boot from USB, and read in the image to the new drive. The system would not POST with the 2TB drive installed. So it behaved this way without any data on it.

Conversely, I cloned my wife's 512GB drive to the new 2TB WD_BLACK in her Lenovo Legion, and there were zero issues. It just worked as it has with every other computer that I have ever imaged with AOMEI.

There's something about this HP that isn't updated, or compatible, and it won't recognize the 2TB drive in any condition.
