HP ENVY x360 Convertible Laptop PC 15-ed1000 (169W8AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Envy x360 laptop 15-ed1008ca.  I bought 2 16GB 3200 ddr4 ram modules.  According to the manual this laptop supports 2 16gb ram modules.   However the laptop will not boot.  It does not produce an error beep. It will not allow me to get into the bios.  It just stays at a black screen.   When I put the original 2 4gb ram modules in the laptop boots and I can access the bios. But when I am in the bios I cannot use the arrow keys to move around.  What could the problem be?

Thank you for any help!

Hi:

What is the memory part number full specs, you installed?

Hi Paul

I ordered 2 of 16GB, DDR4, 3200.   The actual numbers on the module are CMSX16GX4M1A3200C22 and 231012482476705.

Hi:

It appears to me that memory should have worked based on the specs.

VENGEANCE® Series 16GB (1 x 16GB) DDR4 SODIMM 3200MHz CL22 Memory Kit (corsair.com)

HP only has the service manual for the older 15-Ed0xxx model series on your notebook's support page.

According to even the older service manual, the notebook supports 32 GB of memory so unfortunately, I am at a loss to understand why the memory doesn't work.

Sometimes folks install memory with a faster CL speed than the standard CL timing for the memory but CL22 for a 3200 MHz chip is the 'normal' CL speed.

I's say try a 16 GB Crucial chip made by Micron, but I don't know if it would make a difference.

Crucial 16GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM | CT16G4SFRA32A | Crucial.com

Or try 2 x 8 GB of memory and see if that works.

Crucial 8GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM | CT8G4SFRA32A | Crucial.com

16 GB would still provide an adequate amount of memory.

Thank for the reply Paul.  I guess I will try the 8GB modules and see what happens.  I also find it odd that I can get into the BIOS but not put not tab between the settings.
