So from my research, I've found that the 2 4GB Ram modules are soldered to the motherboard. So basically there's no way of upgrading. Can I buy a new System Board with a higher Ram count and upgrade that way? If so, does hp sell that part by itself and will it void my HP Care Pack 3yr warranty?
Thanks

Hi:
I am looking at the service manual for your model, and the memory is removable.
See chapter 1. 2 x 8 GB is supported
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06267280
The procedure to upgrade the memory is in chapter 5.
Here is the crucial memory report for your notebook, and they say you can install 2 x 16 GB of memory for a total of 32 GB.

There is a memory cover you have to remove according to the manual.
Look at chapter 5, pages 29- 30 of the service manual.
Remove the memory module shield:
1. Detach the edges of the memory module shield from the retention clips (1) built into the system board, and then remove the memory module shield
(2). The memory module shield is available using spare part number L62795-001.
WARNING! The memory module shield is constructed of metal and has sharp edges. Exercise care when handling the memory module shield to prevent injuries.
