As the title says, the hinge on my laptop broke and with it, the screen case has opened at the corner. The warranty has just ended which is very annoying. IMO this kind of build failure is unacceptable in a relatively new machine.
The machine has never been dropped or suffered any kind of mistreatment. The break happened during normal use. It seems like the hinge has simply failed. If anyone has any advice about how to get this repaired I would be grateful.
Thanks in advance!

It will involve buying a new top cover, complete dissasembly of the laptop to install the new top cover. You can check with a local repair shop or if you are handy, there's a service guide that will walk you though it.

Yeah, that sounds risky. I've seen the repair guide videos but if I mess it up and cause further damage, that's on me.
Honestly, as this is an obvious fault I would expect HP to do the right thing make the repair free of charge. Surely, this is the right course of action if they want to develop any kind of customer loyalty and avoid a reputation for unacceptable user experience and poor build quality.
