Hi there, I have read several different reports on here about whether my specific laptop (serial number x360 m6-aq103dx) can accept a Samsung NVMe M.2 250GB SSD 980. I have read many threads on here that state it can accept both the current 1TB HDD and the new SSD, but then I also see that it cannot run both of them simultaneously.
I have both currently installed, but only the HDD is recognized. I've tried going into disk management, but nothing pops up. I've reset the compute twice, and it still doesn't pop up.
I have tried going into the Bios, but sadly I don't really understand enough about what I'm doing in there, so I couldn't find any useful information. I have also read the manual and see that there are two specific SSD's listed as compatible, but I'm hoping my Samsung one will work with some settings changes.
I want the SSD to be where the system boots from, and I want the HDD to exist purely for extra internal storage. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Hi, @banhien
The service manual is incorrect.
The model series does in fact support both types of drives.
I used to believe that only SATA M.2 drives were supported as well.

Hi, @PidgeySyndicate
Before you remove the hard drive, use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with your PC on the Samsung SSD.
Here is an info link for how to use the utility. You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery media with.

You can download the software from the Microsoft Store.

Hi:
If you have installed Windows on the NVMe SSD, you need to temporarily disconnect the hard drive so the Windows boot manager switches to the SSD.
Then you need to remove Windows from the drive because notebooks that come with dual drive configurations have no operating system on the 2.5" drive.
That is to be used for storage only.

From page 3 of the manual (doc c05098448.pdf), it supports M.2 SATA-3 SSD's, not NVme SSD's

You're very welcome.
You can try plugging the drive back in and formatting it, but if the Windows boot manager changes back to booting from the SATA drive, I recommend you remove the drive, plug it into a SATA to USB cable like the other forum member did, delete all partitions on the drive, format it and reinstall the drive.
