For a couple of days, everytime I boot my laptop, I get a black screen with this message: SMART Hard Disk Error. The SMART hard disk check has detected an imminent failure. To ensure not data loss please back up content immediately and run the Hard Disk test in System Diagnostics. I have backed up my data and run the Hard Drive Quick Test. The result was
Hard Drive SMART check: FAILED
FAILURE ID: RTV4OMBLLBDD-XD7UQJ-609403 PRODUCT ID 1PL24PA#ABG
Hard Drive 1 - Primary HDD Bay^
The laptop still seems to be functioning normally. I'm wondering if anything can be done to prevent the hard drive failure.

Hi:
There is no way that I know of to fix a failing hard drive.
Eventually, it will need to be replaced.
You can run the checkdisk utility to see if Windows will repair any errors, but back up your files first.

The more you use the hard drive, the chances of it failing sooner than you wanted to may occur.
Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

You may want to consider replacing the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a better performing 2.5" solid state drive (SSD.
After you replace the drive, you can use the HP cloud recovery tool on another PC running W7 64 bit or newer to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.
Here is an info link for how to use the utility. You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery media with.
