I have a 13” Envy (13-ba0013no) and experience problems updating to Win 11.

When updating to Win 11 25H2, the installation stops with the error message:

  • Intel IntcOED.sys driver (Versions 10.24.02863, 10.24.0.3316, 10.24.0.3488, 10.24.0.3633, 10.24.0.3694, 10.24.0.3851, 10.24.0.3950) doesn’t support this Windows version

When I go to the “Read More” link in the error message I get the following explanation acc. to link below (KB5078895: Compatibility issues with Intel Smart Sound Technology drivers on Windows 11):

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/kb5078895-compatibility-issues-with-intel-smart-sound-tech...

When I check “Windows updates” and “HP updates” for my computer, the required updates for installation of Win 11 are not available to download.

Here is some information regarding my HP Envy:

  • Win 10 Home 22H2 (OS 19045.6466)
  • Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1035G1 CPU @ 1.00GHz

HP Device Manager shows (in Swedish text)

  • Intel(R) Smart Sound-teknik ljudstyrenhet (Version 10.24.0.4904)
  • Intel(R) Smart Sound-teknik OED (Version 10.24.4904.200)
    • These are the latest drivers according to device manager

Therefore, my question is:

  • How do I proceed to update my HP Envy to Win 11?

Hi @Gixxerik,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It means the driver is not supported by the current Windows version. HP recommends first checking your current Windows version and then confirming which driver versions are supported for your system on the HP support site. If the HP site does not support your current OS version, HP recommends updating the driver through Windows Update or installing optional driver updates instead.

What you can do

Check your current Windows version

  • In Windows, go to Settings > System > About (or System Information) and review the Windows version.

Check HP driver support for your exact model

  • Go to the HP driver page for your notebook and verify whether a compatible driver is available for your installed Windows version.

Try Windows Update's optional driver updates

  • Windows 11:

Start Menu > Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates
Expand Driver updates and install any offered driver updates.

Use HP Support Assistant

If needed, update BIOS

  • HP recommends BIOS updates as standard maintenance, and they can help with Windows upgrade support. Only install BIOS updates from HP and confirm the update matches your notebook model.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for your support. 😊

  • I have updated my Envy to the latest firmware
  • HP Support Assistant shows no new updates for my Envy
  • Windows update “is up to date” except for the Win 11 installation
  • My preset Windows version is Windows 10 Home 22H2
  • When trying to install Win 11 the installation stops after about 14 % and a pop-up Window says I’m missing some Intel IntcOED.sys drivers
    • When pressing the update box in the pop-up window acc. to above, nothing happens
  • In Start Menu > Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates
there were no alternative for Driver updates (i.e. Driver Updates wasn’t listed in this window)
  • HP driver support for my Envy lists the following subcategories:
    • BIOS-System Firmware
    • Diagnostic (1)
    • Driver-Audio (4)
    • Driver-Chipset (26)
    • Driver-Graphics (6)
    • Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices (9)
    • Driver-Network (3)
    • Driver-Storage (6)
    • Firmware (5)
    • Software-HP Cloud Recovery (1)
    • Software-PoS (1)

So, my follow up questions are:

  • Should I search for the missing drivers in some specific category in HP Driver Support, or just install everything that is listed here?
  • Is there any other way to reach Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates in my Win 10 Home Version?

EDIT: I found optional updates and the only one there was Win 11 25H2 (which can't be installed)

Best regards,

Erik in Sweden

Hello Jerry.
No exclamation marks in the device manager as far as I can see.

If there is some specific driver I should check, please clarify. 🙂

The HP Envy hardware ID is: 104J0EA#UUW

and the serial number is: CND0266DSS

When checking HP Support Assistant for Sound specifications it states the following:
Unit 1: Intel® Smart Sound-teknik

Status: Activated

Driver:  IntcDMic.sys

Version: 10.24.0.4904

Unit 2: Realtek High Definition Audio

Status: Activated

Driver: RTKVHD64.sys

Version: 6.0.9066.1

Unit 3: Intel® Smart Sound-teknik

Status: Activated

Unit 4: Intel(R) bildskärmsljud

Hello again and thanks for your respone. 🙂

The available Audio drivers at HP link are the following:

Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver - Ice Lake - 6.0.8896.1 Rev.A

Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver - Ice Lake -  6.0.9061.1 Rev.C

Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver - Comet Lake - 6.0.8963.1 Rev.A

Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver - Comet Lake - 6.0.9061.1 Rev.C

I'm not sure which one that's suitable for my Envy, Ice Lake or Comet Lake?

And also, I have tried to install some of these Ice Lake/Comet Lake drivers previously and it didn't work out.

I was thinkig I might need to install some other driver before these can be installed? For example some chipset driver or similar.

If I for example tries to install the top listed Ice Lake driver I get the following error message:
"The driver is not supported by this OS version (10.0.19045)"

I have downloaded and installed Comet Lake - 6.0.9061.1 Rev.C and everything worked fine without error messages. 🙂

I restarted the computer and then tried to update to Win 11 again.

Unfortunately the initial error message got back and stopped the Win 11 installation:

  • Intel IntcOED.sys driver (Versions 10.24.02863, 10.24.0.3316, 10.24.0.3488, 10.24.0.3633, 10.24.0.3694, 10.24.0.3851, 10.24.0.3950)
  • Your computer has a driver or service that doesn't support this Win version

At the same time when I run "Let us detect the drivers you need for this HP PC" at HP drivers web page I get the result: "Detection was successful but you don’t need any new software or drivers at this time"

HI @Gixxerik,

May I know where you got this OS, Windows 11?

It is an audio driver compatibility issue.
