OMEN Laptop - 15-en0023dx
Microsoft Windows 11

I have never used ethernet before and am trying to set it up for the first time a few years after purchasing this laptop since I have crappy wifi. I have dual-boot on my laptop and the Ethernet works fine for Ubuntu but it isn't able to connect when I'm running Windows 11. I can see the "Realtek Gaming GbE Family Controller" in the device list and it has the yellow triangle indicating an error state.

In the Details Tab of the Device Properties it has listed

Problem Code: 00000030

and also

Problem Status:

{Access Denied} A process has requested access to an object, but has not been granted those access rights.

C0000022

Let me know if you need more information.

@Jmskmn, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

Based on your description and the error code 00000030 with status C0000022 (Access Denied) for the Realtek Gaming GbE Family Controller, it seems like a driver or permissions issue in Windows 11. Since Ethernet works fine on Ubuntu, the hardware is likely functioning correctly.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to resolve this:

Uninstall and Reinstall the Ethernet Driver

Open Device Manager:

  • Press Win + X → Select Device Manager.

Locate the Ethernet Adapter:

  • Expand Network adapters.
  • Right-click on Realtek Gaming GbE Family Controller → Select Uninstall device.
  • Check Delete the driver software for this device if prompted.

Restart your laptop.

Reinstall the driver:

Run Network Troubleshooter

  1. Go to SettingsSystemTroubleshootOther troubleshooters.
  2. Run the Network Adapter troubleshooter and follow the prompts.

Reset Network Settings

  1. Open SettingsNetwork & InternetAdvanced network settings.
  2. Click Network reset → Restart your PC.

Check Permissions and Services

The error {Access Denied} may indicate a permissions issue:

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Ensure the following services are Running and set to Automatic:
    • DHCP Client
    • Network Connections
    • Network List Service
    • Network Location Awareness
    • Wired AutoConfig

If any are not running, right-click → Start.

BIOS and Chipset Update (Optional but Recommended)

Sometimes outdated firmware can cause hardware detection issues:

When I restart my computer after uninstalling the device it reinstalls it automatically and repeats the same problem.

Additionally, when I try to manually install a working driver by going to the HP Software and Drivers Downloads Page, after selecting my exact device it prompts me for my operating system but the only option listed is Windows 10 and I am on Windows 11.

I tried all the other options too and none of them fixed the problem.
