HP Notebook - 14-an012nr (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Currently I use an external drive for storage but I don't have it permanently connected to just this device. I would however like to expand the internal memory from the current 16gb eMMC that is constantly full to something with at least 64gb although my external is 1TB & half full after dumping everything I could off the notebook onto the drive. I would need to expand its internal memory as high as possible. When I opened the notebook to see if I could add my disc drive & an SSD it didn't look it was designed to be upgraded without buying quite a few cables & adaptors along with the standard necessities to put those in any laptop. I don't know if my RAM can handle an upgrade or if that requires upgrading too. Is it more cost effective to buy a newer laptop with what I need or upgrade this one? Anyone know & can give me advice.

Hi:

Unfortunately, it would be very difficult to increase the disk storage capacity in your notebook.

It comes with a 32 GB eMMC drive which as you have found out, fills up fast.

HP has quit selling notebooks with 32 GB drives due to the huge number of complaints regarding the notebooks not being able to update and whatnot due to no space left.

Below is the link to the service manual.

HP Notebook PC (AMD) * Models: 14-an0XX * Models: 14-as0XX * Models: 14-au0XX * Models: 14z-an000HP ...

Chapter 3, page shows that two eMMC storage drives were offered...32 GB and 64 GB.

64 GB    HP part # 903803-001

If you could find the 64 GB part you need, that would be your only option to upgrade.

The part is not orderable from HP, so you would have to find it on the secondary market.

HP Parts Store - HP Computer Parts - HP Printer Parts - Compaq Parts

You would be much better off upgrading your notebook to one that comes with a removable NVMe SSD.

Much faster and you have the ability to upgrade the drive easily for more storage if necessary.
