I've been getting an "explorer.exe - Application Error" that reads the following:
"The instruction at 0x00007FF64CBE86B2 referenced memory at 0x0000000000000030. The memory could not be written. Click on OK to terminate the program"
I get this EVERY time I shut down my laptop and not sure what it means (obviously has something to do with memory), or how to fix it.
Has anyone experienced this and if so does anyone know how to correct it?
Thanks.

Hi @ murfdog,
Welcome to HP Forum! 🙂 This is a great place to find solutions to your issues! 🙂
I would be happy to help with this issue.
I understand that you are getting explorer.exe - Application Error" that reads the following:"The instruction at 0x00007FF64CBE86B2 referenced memory at 0x0000000000000030 error when you shut down your HP Spectre x360.
I suggest you perform the following troubleshooting.
Step 1: End the Windows Explorer process and create the new one.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, under Process tab, search for Windows Explorer.
- Right-click on it and click on End Task.
- Click on File in the Task Manager at top left corner of the window and select Run new task.
- Type explorer.exe and click on Ok.
Step 2: Run SFC scan.
System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.
- Right click on the Start button, click on Command Prompt (Admin).
- Type “SFC /Scan now” without the quotes and hit Enter.
- After the scan, restart the computer and check for the issue
Step 3: Run Memory Diagnostic Tool.
- Press Windows key and type Memory Diagnostic.
- Select Windows Memory Diagnostics and click on Restart now and check for problems.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
If the Issue persists you can perform system recovery which will reinstall Windows OS and reset the notebook to its factory default settings.
Click here to know how to perform system recovery on your notebook.
Let me know how it goes.
I hope that the issue gets resolved without too much hassle.
Have a great day! 🙂
