How can an HP T104XL battery (HP Envy 17) be charged outside of the computer?

I have HP Envy 17 inch notebook PC that I suspected of a bad charging port and the right side of the computer... but now all the charging ports on the left side are not working either.  A computer repair place diagnosed either a bad motherboard or bad processor or both.

I need to recover data off of the PC and it was working fine with a bad charging port at the right and with working charging ports on the left side.

I can recover the data by removing the hard drive but repair place is having a hard time with the bitblocker key that HP sent to me.

The easiest thing to do would be to get the battery charged outside of the computer.

See the attached photos of the battery... Designed by a 12 year old in China and approved by an HP resource on crack.

Has HP bastardized the charging process so that you can't do that anymore...?

I can purchase a new battery... hoping that it comes with age 20% charge so that I can save my data onto a thumb drive.
