Hi @LibertyLover59,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Most Seagate external hard drives are bus-powered, meaning they draw power directly from the USB port. Here’s what you need to check:

1. USB Port Type

  • If your drive is portable (2.5-inch), it usually needs USB 3.0 or higher for enough power.
  • Plug it into a blue USB 3.0 port or a USB-C port on your HP PC.

2. Powered Drives

  • If your Seagate drive is a desktop model (3.5-inch), it requires an external power adapter.
  • Check the label on the drive; it should come with a 12V DC adapter. Without it, the PC won’t detect the drive.

3. If Still Not Detected

  • Try a different USB cable (preferably the original).
  • Avoid USB hubs unless they are powered hubs.
  • Check Disk Management (Win + X → Disk Management) to see if the drive appears but is unallocated.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
