HP Spectre x360 Convertible Laptop PC 14-ea0000 (1Q878AV)

After a BIOS update to F.34 (SoftPaq: sp154725) from F.32 the USB-C DP has stopped working properly. When I connect the monitor to the laptop via an adapter, it is detected and switches to the appropriate mode (extended screen) but the external monitor does not display any image. Everything worked before the update.

I looked for the option to downgrade the BIOS, but this option is blocked. I also did BIOS recovery but it didn't help either.

What can I do in this situation? It's obviously the fault of the last BIOS update...

Thanks!

Hi @Robonokrator

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to fix the issue:

1. Update/Reinstall Display and USB-C Drivers

After a BIOS update, sometimes the drivers might need to be reinstalled or updated to ensure compatibility with the new BIOS version.

Update GPU drivers:

  • Go to Device Manager > Display adapters > Right-click your graphics card > Update driver > Search automatically for updates.

Update USB-C/Thunderbolt drivers:

  • Go to Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers > Right-click USB Type-C or Thunderbolt devices > Update driver > Search automatically.

Install or reinstall Intel Thunderbolt drivers (if applicable):

  • Visit the HP support page for your specific laptop and download/install the latest Thunderbolt drivers.

2. Check Display Settings

  • Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
  • Scroll down to Multiple displays and click on Detect to make sure the monitor is recognized.
  • If the external monitor is detected but still not showing, try changing the display mode (e.g., Extend, Duplicate, or Second screen only).

3. Perform a Full Power Reset

  • Shut down the laptop.
  • Unplug any peripherals (including the external monitor).
  • Hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain residual power.
  • Reconnect everything and power on the laptop.

4. Check BIOS Settings for USB-C/DisplayPort

  • Restart the laptop and press Esc or F10 to enter BIOS.
  • Look for any settings related to USB-C, DisplayPort, or Thunderbolt and make sure they are enabled.
  • Save changes and exit BIOS.

5. Use a Different Adapter or Cable

The problem might be with the USB-C to DisplayPort adapter itself. If possible, try using a different adapter or USB-C to HDMI adapter to see if the issue persists.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
