I've been given Part Numbers by HP helpdesk for additional RAM for my Pavilion gaming laptop, 8Gb to 16GB/32GB to enhance Flight Sim experience. However on a search various types are shown, DDR2, DDR3 and DDR4, I'm unsure which one will be suitable. Any assistance will be gratefully received. Thank you.

I recommend you consider purchasing Crucial memory which they indicate is compatible with your notebook.
HP - Compaq Pavilion 17-cd0033na | Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | Crucial UK
The DDR4-3200 memory will automatically bridge to 2666 MHz because that is as fast as your notebook's processor can run the memory at.
Otherwise, you can find the HP part numbers for the memory used in your notebook in chapter 3 of the service manual.
Memory modules (DDR4-2666):
16 GB 937438-855
8 GB 937236-855
4 GB L10598-855

Hi Paul, may I pick your brains again please. So i ordered and have in possession my new Crucial DDR4 3200 16GB memory but it doesn't fit into the slot where my present memory sticks are placed. It is in fact twice as wide as the present memory sticks. Is it possible that I've ordered the incorrect part. I'll see if I can post a photo as a ;picture paints a thousand words. Any assistance you can provide would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, Martin:
You ordered memory that only works in a full-size desktop PC.
I had given you the link to order the right kind of memory to use in your notebook.
This would be the 16 GB chip that you would use:

Hi Paul, Yes I can see now that I've inadvertantly ordered incorrect the part. I'll speak with Crucial in the morning and order the correct one over the phone and also see if they'll accept a return for the wrong item.

Good morning Paul, I'm heartened to report that I have now been in receipt of the correct 2 x 16Gb RAM for my Pavilion gaming laptop for a couple of weeks and the added performance over the standard 8Gb is amazing, especially when playing Microsoft Flight Sim 2020. It has allowed me turn up the enhancement gaming experience from high to Ultra without any negative impact and also allowed extra frames per second also without any impact. Thank you for all your assistance.
May I also ask you an additional question with regards to my Pavilion laptop?
It came pre loaded with McAFee LiveSafe and I've renewed the subscription annually for the piece of mind that it provides all the protection I'd require. However its Identity protection is 'Monitoring' and I often het a pop up appear to purchase 'Protection'. My question is this a product recommended a buy purchase? and what is actually the difference between Monitoring and Protection?
Many thanks,
Martin.

Good morning, Martin.
Glad the memory upgrade now works for you.
Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to your follow-on question.
The first thing I do when I get a new PC is to uninstall the McAfee software.
I have only used the built in security software native to W10/W11, so I have no idea how the McAfee software works.
I recommend that you start a new discussion on that topic, or better still you may want to contact McAfee support.
