My laptop makes extreme noises for about 30 seconds. It's not the fan. I have a video with the noise. Anyone knows what this could be? Is there any way I can share that video with someone here? Thanks

Hi @Wietse87,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop is making extreme noises at startup that are not related to the fan, several possibilities could cause the issue, such as a malfunctioning part or loose components. Here are some steps and suggestions to help diagnose and address the problem.

Check for Physical Damage: Inspect your laptop for any physical damage. Ensure all screws on the bottom panel are tightly secured.

Hard Drive Noise: If the noise resembles clicking or grinding, it could be the hard drive. Back up your data as a precaution and consider running HP’s hardware diagnostics:

  • Restart your laptop.
  • Press ESC continuously until the Startup Menu opens.
  • Select F2 to open System Diagnostics and perform a hard drive check.

Run BIOS/UEFI Diagnostics: You might also want to check if any other hardware component is malfunctioning using BIOS/UEFI diagnostics:

  • Turn off your laptop and then turn it back on.
  • Press ESC as it starts up to access the Startup Menu.
  • Select F2 or the diagnostics option.

Software Updates: Ensure your laptop’s BIOS and drivers are updated. This can be done via the HP Support Assistant:

  • Open HP Support Assistant from the Start menu.
  • Check for updates under the “My devices” section.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
