Whilst replacing the failed hardrive on my notebook, the FFC connector for the keyboard has broken off the motherboard. I am looking to source a replacement. I now its a 32pin, 1mm pitch, top contact, but a supplier I am in contact also with needs to know the current rating.

Can anyone either tell me a specific make and model to use as a replacement or tell me the current rating?

Hi @Sdews

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

The connector comes attached with the keyboard, there's no part number for it, I'd suggest you Contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your computer.

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Have a great day!

Hi @Jay_G24,

Thank you for your reply. Apologies if I didn't explain my problem better. Its the connector that is soldered to the motherboard I am looking to replace, the ribbon from the keyboard is fine (I've attached photo at the bottom showing the FFC connector between the keyboard flat cable and a £2 coin for size).  The new connector will cost less than £1 and I have access to micro soldering, versus a new motherboard which is probably going to cost £50 for a second hand one.

Unfortunately the link you provided to  Contact HP is fairly useless. Its the same one I've been trying for weeks, searching going round and round in endless loops hoping that maybe I'll find some page I previously missed that actually enables me to contact a real person:

  • There is nobody to phone, the number has been removed due to coronavirus (I don't understand why HP support can't work from home with re-directed phone calls),
  • there is no email address (again I don't understand why HP Support can't check their emails from home),
  • the virtual assistant, self diagnostics can only tell you to reboot, or reload some driver or software, they can't help me deal with a real hardware technical issue,
  • the only option left for communication is this forum.

Hope someone can help, please.

Hi Jay_G24,

Thank you for the PM, they were very helpful, but unfortunately they did not have the technical information I needed.

keyboard connector on the motherboard is the replaceable part, you will have to replace the system board

You can find the parts and part number on the maintenance and service guide

you may order the replacement parts on the HP Parts Store,

If you've already looked for it and couldn't find it on the HP Parts Store, you may want to get it locally at the online store such as Amazon or eBay, etc...as the part numbers are universal.
