Microsoft Windows 11

My laptop was sporadically not charging and sometimes I had to wiggle the cord.   Today, I notice it wouldn't charge at all (and of course I noticed it when the battery was almost gone. I managed to get diagnostics run on components and got this failure code on the port:

9C4FS3-9T8 BHV-MFPXHA-8D0W03

Product ID 6XL31AV

I'm kind of assuming that means that the USB port is dead???   Can this be replaced?   If so, is it feasible for me to do it myself?  And... if so,how do I know exactly what part to get??

@lliefveld,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Yes, the problem could be a defective USB port or it could be related to a USB device connected in one of your USB ports, or it could be as simple as a software intervention/update.  Unfortunately, this may require some time to find out what it is.

Here is a troubleshooting link: HP PCs - Troubleshooting USB connections (Windows 10) | HP® Customer Support, and closely related: HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures in Windows 10 | HP® Customer Support.

Hope this was helpful.

Unfortunately, my laptop is out of warranty, so I don't seem to be able to get to HP Customer Support as your first link suggests.   I have now confirmed that I can charge the laptop through the 2nd USB port, but not the 1st, so it's definitely the port itself.
