OMEN by HP Laptop W2N32UA#ABA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello. So I've been using this laptop for a little over a year now and ever since I bought it, the fans have been constantly somewhat loud when idle. It's the loudest thing in the classroom when I'm using it and it really irritates me and my friends. I've tried almost everything from fan control speeds to BIOS settings. I even took it back to the store where I bought it and they said that they couldn't figure out the problem. Please help...

@DeanKim,

Thank you for replying,

After reviewing your post thoroughly, I see that the problem you are facing is from the day one. In this scenario, I would suggest you perform an extensive system test as well as test on the hard drive, memory and graphics card which are listed under component test. (Please remember to capture the failure ID for further assistance).

Depending on the test results, I'm sending out a Private message with the information you need to get this sorted,

@DeanKim,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I reviewed the post about the fan making a loud noise on the computer. I will be delighted to assist you with this.

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this.

  • Has it always been like this from the time you purchased the computer?
  • Does the laptop shuts down due to overheating?
  • Does it freeze or lockup?

Let's start with performing a hard reset on the PC to release any excessive static/power that could have cause the issue.

Turn off the computer.

Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.

Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

Press and hold down the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors that protect the memory.

Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, and then press the Enter key.

If the issue persists, I would suggest here to Perform Bios Defaults:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

For starters please perform all the prescribed steps from these links to try and fix the issue- HP Notebook PCs - Fan is Noisy and Spins Constantly, PC is Warmer than Normal:  https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01007591

Link 2: reducing heat inside the computer: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01657439

I would suggest here is to update the Bios, and Chipset drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

This problem with the fan and temps started ever since I bought the laptop. When I first got it, it didn't seem like a huge issue to me. However, as I learned more about major computer parts, I quickly realized that everything was not fine whatsoever. My laptop does freeze while playing a game but only recently started happening from time to time. I do not recall any shut downs due to the heat but I fear that it will occur very soon as the temps and fans are going haywire now.

Also, if I were to open this laptop to figure out what's wrong with it, would that be a bad thing? Can I reapply thermal paste if needed, or get a new set of fans to replace the current ones if needed to if I found out that they were faulty?
