Hi,

Is it possible to ask engineers what are exact registers for fan control are?
I played with this already and I noticed that if I push this laptop here and there it's VR capable and it can run with 5.4 on Steam benchmark.

Problem is that I needed a wipe, and my configs are gone, for me, it would be easier if you could just release some documentation on fan speed (how to change it via registers (see notebook fan control) ) and possibly how to disable limiting of power draw in notebook mode. I believe that this laptop properly configured can last me for the next few years. For example, if I installed a "sp112550.exe" which is meant for the 2020 model and it made my laptop detect rotation whereas drivers for my laptop wouldn't do that. Those are small things you can do to make your products order of magnitude better.

Hi@Rymek, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

As I understand you want to control fan speed,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Did you know that the fan is system managed and cannot be changed manually?

Does the computer shut down due to overheating?

Have you recently made any changes to the computer before the issue started?

Have you tried to update the drivers and the Bios?

If you didn't, I'm afraid that's how the HP device is designed, making changes to fan speed may cause overclocking or over-throttling causing hardware malfunctions within the device and hence is not recommended or supported by HP.

If your device is overheating, please remember the below information:

NOTE: Generally, when temperatures inside the case rise above 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit), the risk of damaging important internal components increases greatly.

Also, to avoid CPU damage, we do not recommend throttling or overclocking the CPU, I recommend you refrain from using high-performance games on this laptop as it's not built for the same.

I would suggest you refer to the support documents as this will help you in resolving the issue.

Let's start off by updating the Bios, Chipset, and graphics card drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.

Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer to this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

Did you know that the fan is system-managed and cannot be changed manually?

This is not true if you use a tool like a notebook fan control GitHub - hirschmann/nbfc: NoteBook FanControl

Then it is possible to control the speed of fans, but problem is that it interacts with power modes in a bit of a weird way.

Does the computer shut down due to overheating?

Only if I change some setting in notebook fan control that makes it so that on windows laptop will think it's overheating even when it's totally cold. Otherwise, as long as fans are running overheating won't be a problem.

Have you recently made any changes to the computer before the issue started?

I guess yes, but the problem is that even on stock windows those issues can be present.

Have you tried to update the drivers and the Bios?

Yes, I'm running the latest bios, drivers.

I know that if you push fans to 100% then this laptop can stay at 60*C while on high load on CPU and GPU. Problem is that in tent mode this laptop will set power limits both on CPU and GPU to something like 8W. But I would argue that in tent mode this laptop has even more access to air so it doesn't make sense, the problem is that there is no easy way to change it.

This makes it so that even games like LoL which are famous for running on toasters perform really badly because the CPU can't access 20-40W needed to stay at 3-4 GHz, (GPU will struggle in similar ways).

I'm just looking for a way to be able to set power limits and fan curves in tent mode manually because I know it's possible but currently, it's quite messy and not trivial (it requires disabling some drives ... bla bla bla). I have enough technical background to know how to not melt my laptop I just need controls with which I will be able to do what I want. It's really nice machine but it needs slight software fixes to unlock its full potential.

Btw. Your drivers that decide when to put this laptop in tablet mode are not working with the latest windows updates, but If you install drivers for the newer model it works, you could just add them or mark them as experimental.

Hi@ Rynek,

`We have done the basic troubleshooting as per the document and the notebook needs to be checked taking remote access so that get to know it's a hardware or software issue.

I'd suggest you contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your computer or HP Chat Support Team.
