Hi,

I bought a new notebook and the fan is almost always running when Im using it.

If I just watch a video on YouTube it kicks on. The CPU usually jumps up and down from 5 to 40 when Im browsing the web and listening to audio.

On my old notebook, the fan wasn´t running as often.

What can I do for the fan to not be running as often?

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?
  • What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Product number: 2D6J8EA#UUW

The computer can't handle anything without overheathing for eg If I plugin an usb, the fans are on full speed for as long as the usb is plugged in.

No hardware changes. I updated BIOS and the graphic card.

I tried to edit processor power management, but its missing on my computer.

I tried some of these steps:

Use the following steps:

  • Shut down the computer, and then inspect and clean the exterior vents to remove dust buildup by blowing air through the vent openings. Dust can accumulate inside the vent openings and around internal cooling components, preventing the removal of heat.

For more information on reducing heat inside your computer, see Reducing Heat Inside the PC.

  • After you remove the dust, turn on the computer. If the error message persists, continue with these steps.
  • Perform a hard reset. Performing a hard reset can reset recorded thermal values in memory and enable you to use the computer again, even if only for a short time to access and save any important files before service.

For more information on performing a hard reset, see Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

This is a new computer. A new computer should be able to handle having a few tabs open without overheating. My old laptop was 6 years old and it wasn't having any CPU issues.

To get the answer to this question, most new laptop get warmer due to new system required software and drivers updates will be running in background.

Not to worry computer will cool itself.

Thanks for your reply. The computer is a few weeks old. How long will it take for the computer to handle more than one task without overheating? It's getting annoying hearing the fan going at full speed all the time. It cant be normal that for eg scrolling through a Twitter page causes the computer to overheat.
