Hi,

 

Woke up this morning, and heard a noise coming from my HP Spectre x360 15".

Seems the fan outlet on the left side by the power switch was active, even though the computer was turned off. I tried to push several keyboard keys and using the touchpad, but the computer didn't react, and the fan noise continued. When at last I turned the laptop on, the noise stopped, and everything seemed to work as normal.

 

Is the laptop supposed to run fans while turned off?

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

 

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your laptop?

 

Please provide the product number of your PC to assist you better.

 

As you mentioned the fan on your laptop is running even after you turn it off.

 

To properly ventilate the computer, allow at least 7.6 cm (3 in) of clearance on the left side
of the computer. The computer uses an electric fan for ventilation. The fan is controlled by a temperature
sensor and is designed to turn on automatically when high-temperature conditions exist. These conditions
are affected by high external temperatures, system power consumption, power management/battery
conservation configurations, battery fast charging, and software requirements. Exhaust air is displaced
through the ventilation grill located on the left side of the computer.

 

Try the steps recommended below.

 

  1. Download the Windows 10 "Show or Hide Updates" Troubleshooter Package (http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/2/2/F22D5FDB-59CD-4275-8C95-1BE17BF70B21/wushowhide.diagcab).
  2. Change the Windows Update Services setting from Automatic (Delayed Start) to Manual.
    • In the Control Panel, select Administrative Tools and open Services.
    • Scroll down to Windows Update and double-click it to bring up its properties.
    • Click Stop to stop the service from running.
    • Change the Startup Type to Manual and click OK.
  3. Install version 9 or 10 of the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver.  If you receive a dialog warning about replacing a newer version of the software, accept it.
    • NOTE: You do NOT need to uninstall version 11 before installing version 9 or 10.  The presence of some version of the driver is required in order to "upgrade" (or in this case downgrade) it.
  4. Run the Windows 10 "Show or Hide Updates" Troubleshooter Package and hide updates to the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver.  (Doing so will block your system from automatically reinstalling or showing updates for version 11 of the driver.)
  5. Change the Windows Update Services setting from Manual back to Automatic (Delayed Start).
  6. Restart your computer.

Also, try updating the chipset drivers and BIOS on your PC using HP support assistant and check if it helps.
