My laptop is popping up a message at the startup.. The message reads.. "the system detects a fan is not operating well" then it will shut down within 15sec but of I press enter the startup will continue.. But the system then gets hot quickly.
Hope I face not risk still running the system?

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have the HP Pavilion g6 series laptop. I read that when you power on the laptop a message appears stating that "the system detects a fan is not operating well" then it will shut down within 15 seconds. But of you press enter the startup will continue and the laptop then gets hot quickly.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did any hardware changes take place on the laptop recently?
  • Once the laptop overheats, does it shutdown by itself or do you have to manually turn it off?
  • Please let me know the exact product model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Remove the battery out.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
  • Power ON the laptop.

If the fan error continues to appear then please continue with the below steps:

  • Shut down the computer.

  • While the computer is turned off, inspect and clean the exterior vents to remove dust buildup by blowing air through the vent openings. Dust can accumulate inside the vent openings and around internal cooling components, preventing the removal of heat. After the dust has been removed, turn on the computer.

  • For more information on reducing heat inside your computer, see Reducing Heat Inside the PC.

In these scenarios, it is recommended to update the BIOS. I wasn't able to send you the link for the exact BIOS update because I do not have the exact laptop model no.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to reply. All the best! 🙂
