For a few months now whenever my fans kick in, they do it in short burts of about two seconds off two on. Recently this began happening more and more often when my laptop wasn't even processing much. I previously cleaned the vents to no avail and recently updated the BIOS which helped for about a day, but now the fans go pretty much constantly. Even just having a web browser open sets them off. Anything else I can try?

Welcome to the HP Community @lauren_thorleyy
I came across your message about the PC performance issue and wanted to pop in to help 🙂
Going through your post, I understand that the fan noise is high while using the PC. I’d like to know the following details to assist you better:
- Is the laptop overheating?
- Is your laptop shutting down by itself at any point?
- Did you perform any software or hardware update on your PC prior to the issue?
Alternatively, perform a Windows update on your PC. Restart the PC once done. Then update the BIOS and the Chipset drivers for this notebook.
I would suggest you first try and use HP Support Assistant to download the necessary drivers to update the old ones.
HP Support Assistant is a software program designed to help you keep your computer in working order, prevent potential problems from arising, and resolve problems quickly and easily. The program also provides valuable system information that you need when troubleshooting computer problems. Please go to http://hp.care/2gFA6Q8 to install the HP SA if you do not have it already.
Also, if you have the HP SA installed then go to http://hp.care/2gqoIri and follow the steps under “Checking for HP updates’ to find and install the updates.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Good luck 🙂

1. The laptop gets quite hot at the space above the keyboard
2. The laptop doesn't shut down by itself no
3. The issue has been getting worse gradually so I can't remember what updates were preformed
The laptop has no updates to preform. I previously updated the BIOS. There are no drivers available to download from the HP assistant.
