I'm trying to find a compatible stylus pen for my laptop that has a touchscreen and google told me to get the HP Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen but I want to make sure by asking here to be certain if it's true or not. Will it really help me with drawing?

Hi @Raquel321
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand the excitement of wanting to use your HP Envy 17‑da0000 for drawing, and I appreciate the care you’re taking to confirm compatibility before purchasing a stylus. Let’s go through this clearly so you can be confident in your choice.
Compatibility Details
- The HP Envy 17‑da0000 series features a touchscreen, but it does not include active digitizer hardware (Microsoft Pen Protocol or Wacom AES) that is required for advanced stylus pens like the HP Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen.
- This means the screen responds to finger touch and basic capacitive stylus pens (rubber‑tip or disc‑tip), but it will not recognize pressure sensitivity, tilt, or advanced drawing features of an MPP pen.
- The HP Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen is designed for models with Microsoft Pen Protocol (MPP) support, such as HP Spectre x360 or HP Envy x360 convertible laptops. It will not provide drawing functionality on your Envy 17‑da0000.
What Will Work for Drawing
- You can use a capacitive stylus for navigation and simple sketching, but it will feel similar to finger input—no pressure or tilt.
- For true drawing capability (pressure sensitivity, shading, tilt), you would need a device with active pen support built into the display hardware. Your current model does not have that feature.
Practical Options
- If your goal is casual sketching or note‑taking, a high‑quality capacitive stylus (such as Adonit or similar brands) will work.
- If you want professional drawing features, consider pairing your laptop with an external drawing tablet (like HP’s collaboration with Wacom or other USB/Bluetooth tablets). These provide full pen input and pressure sensitivity while connected to your Envy.
You’ve already done the right thing by checking before buying. The HP Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen will not unlock drawing features on your Envy 17‑da0000, but you can still enjoy touch navigation and basic stylus use.
For artistic work, an external drawing tablet is the most effective path forward.
