Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello and thanks for looking here, I have looked at so much info and I think I have just confused myself more.

I have not done any upgrades to my laptop yet and have been suffering in the existence of a 128gb SSD (with 30% wear) and 8gb ram for a few years. Playing RDR2 or Warzone on the 7200 HDD has made me weep at times.

Link to the laptop: https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c05368577

My areas of confusion are as follows.

M.2 SSD: I don't care too much about NVME speeds over SATA, I would be happy with it just being 500GB/1TB but I can't figure out what socket it is.

When I run the test on crucial or Mr Memory they recommend an NVME M.2 SSD However when I look at my components with HWINFO I don't see the socket for NVME, it says SATA.

So even though it's M.2, is it PCI-E, NVME, or SATA? I'm a tab confused. On the same user manual for the laptop, the other varients below mine say clearly state NVME but my 128GB m.2/1TB 7200rpm do not. This was one of the better omen laptops at the time as I got the GTX1070 version and would be surprised if it doesn't support NVME. If others did. I don't think you could even get the Omen with 1080 when I bought it.

SATA SSD: Am I right in thinking I can also upgrade to the larger form SATA SSD, but it will be slower like 450/mbs with a kit or something?

RAM: DDR 4 SODIMM RAM. The only thing I'm unsure about here is the CAS Timing really. Currently, mine is 17-17-17-39 or something. Does the new ram need the same timings?

When I look at parts for my laptop and things recommended to me id doesn't add up. I know my laptop is pretty much the model right before the new models come out. It feels like Marry Shelly put the thing together.

Hi:

Chapter 1 of the service manual indicate the slot supports both NVMe  and SATA drives.

I would definitely go with a NVMe drive.

The memory you buy should have the same timings.

I would get one of the compatible Crucial memory chips.
