Good afternoon.
I have the described laptop and a year ago, since It was eligible for the update, I installed Windows 11. Recently (I understand that after some automatic update) the fingerprint sensor has stopped working.
Now the OS does not recognize it and therefore I cannot use it.
I tried to reinstall the driver, remove the device in the Device Manager (restarting the computer and letting it install again). I even tried to restore the computer to factory settings (unfortunately no longer reinstalls the original OS: windows 10) but without success.
Please anyone who has experienced the same problem and managed to solve it somehow?. Thank you.

Hi @Werthera
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.
It sounds like your HP Pavilion x360 - 14-cd0008ns laptop’s fingerprint sensor stopped working after a Windows 11 update, and you’ve already tried several troubleshooting steps like reinstalling the drivers, removing the device, and restoring factory settings without success. Here are additional steps to try to get your fingerprint sensor working again:
1. Check Windows Biometric Settings
- Open Settings: Press Windows key + I.
- Go to Accounts > Sign-in options.
- Under Fingerprint Recognition, check if it shows that a fingerprint is already set up. If it doesn't, try to set it up again by clicking Set up and following the prompts.
- If the Fingerprint option is missing entirely, it could be a driver issue or a problem with the fingerprint sensor.
2. Update Fingerprint Driver Manually
- Go to HP's Driver and Software page: HP Pavilion x360 - 14-cd0008ns Support Page.
- Enter your laptop model and select your Windows version (make sure it’s Windows 11 if applicable).
- Under Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices, look for the Fingerprint Sensor Driver.
- Download and install the driver for your fingerprint sensor, then restart your laptop to apply the changes.
Alternative: Use Device Manager to Update the Driver
- Open Device Manager: Right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager.
- Expand Biometric devices. If you see Synaptics Fingerprint Driver or something similar, right-click it and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software and follow the on-screen instructions.
3. Check Device Manager for Errors
- Open Device Manager again.
- Check under Biometric devices for the Fingerprint Sensor.
- If it has a yellow triangle or an exclamation mark, there may be an issue with the device.
- Right-click the device and select Properties.
- Check the Device status under the General tab to see if there is any error code or issue listed.
- If it’s showing an error, you might need to uninstall the driver (right-click > Uninstall device) and restart the laptop. Windows should attempt to reinstall the correct driver automatically.
4. Check Windows Update History
- Go to Settings > Windows Update > Update history.
- Check the installed updates and note the date when the fingerprint sensor stopped working (after an update).
- If you find the update that caused the issue, you can try uninstalling it:
- Go to Settings > Windows Update > View update history > Uninstall updates.
- Select the problematic update and uninstall it.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
-Regards
