Folio 9480m
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently updated to version 1709 of Windows 10 and my fingerprint reader is no longer working to log onto Windows.  I updated to the latest HP Security Manager which is 9.0.0.2116 and also updated my laptops Bios to the latest available.  The Validity Sensor shows in the device manager correctly and says it is the latest version which is VFS491. The fingerprint reader works fine at boot when prompted to log onto the drive encryption however when trying to re-register the fingerprint in HP Security Manager the software tells me "The fingerprint reader is not connected.  Connect the reader.  Everything else is working fine.

I had the same issue on a EliteBook 2170p after updating to build 1709.

To get it to work, I installed an old version of the driver.

This version worked for me - DriverVer=05/27/2015,4.5.307.0

This version didn't work - DriverVer=12/05/2016,4.5.338.0

Not sure if it will work for you as I have a different model laptop although it does have a VFS491 FP reader.  But is something you might want to try.  (I had a copy of the old version in my backups - it originally came from Windows Update, not from HP website)

Luke, thanks for the help.  I didn't go back to the version you suggested but did uninstall the Synaptics WBF Fingerprint Reader, download the latest version off the HP Support site, and reinstall and it's working now.  I'm not 100% certain but it may have been the version I already had so just uninstalling that and reinstalling that my have been all it took.  I thought I did once already but did again anyway.  I had 4.5.335.0 installed and the link you sent showed that having a date of 06/21/2016.  The one from the HP Support site just now provided me 4.5.335.0 Rev-A and had a date of 08/31/2016.  Not sure if I had the Rev-A already or not as the Apps & Features didn't show details.  Works so I'm happy!
