Since upgrading to Windows 10, the fingerprint reader hasn't worked. There is a solution on this site for an HP Envy notebook, giving a link to a driver for Windows 8. However, As the Device Manager shows the same generic description for four or five Human Interface devices, I can't identify which of these is the Fingerprint reader. I haven't downloaded that driver as a) it might not be the latest one and b) apparently, I need to be able to identify the Fingerprint reader in the Device Managager byut they are all called "HID-compliant consumer control device, so I don't know what any of them actually is.

As another issue, I'd like to mention that this website is really hard to read because of the faint print in grey rather than black. Very un-user-friendly!

Thanks in advance for your help,

Cerise

Hi, Cerise:

There is only one W10 fingerprint reader driver for your model and that is this one...

4.5.341.0       Jun 26, 2017

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81001-81500/sp81058.exe

Since the installation is automatic, there should be no need to manually find the actual device, and install the driver.

It's either going to work, or it won't.

But then you need to use the W10 Client Security Manager software in order to enroll your fingerprint.

HP Client Security Manager provides enhanced Windows login and website single-sign-on capabilities. Security Manager is also the host for HP Client Security plugins, and therefore should be installed before other Client Security modules. This package is provided for supported models running a supported operating system.

Thanks, for your incredibly swift reply! As I unerstand it, I need to install the second link you sent first and then the first one. I'll try it now and let you know if it works.

It would be nice if the Device Manager did identify devices, rather than just listing generic names, but perhaps it will once I install the driver.

Thanks again,

Cerise

You're very welcome, Cerise

You have to install the driver first, then the second link (software).
