It seems like every time I get a new update from Windows, after rebooting my computer my fingerprint scanner doesn't work any more. Fixes have included:
- If the fingerprint option isn't disabled, but doesn't work: Add my fingerprint again - this seems to re-enable it reliably in that case
- If the fingerprint option is disabled (shows not working in Device Manager):
- Remove Biometric Devices>Synaptics WBDI SGX from the Device Manager (Right click, select Uninstall Device)
- Reinstall it (Action>Scan for hardware changes)
I would love it if there was a way to keep the problem from occuring. Does anyone have a suggestion that will keep the fingerprint scanner from being repeatedly disabled? I spent 40 minutes w/support the first time it happened and they did a bunch of stuff but clearly it did not resolve this issue. I love the fingerprint login, but I hate that it keeps getting disabled.

@Danabw1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Let us try these steps to resolve the issue:
Install the HP Simple Pass Identity Protection Software for Windows 10, click here.
If the issue persists, Please Click here to download the most viable driver for Windows 10 fingerprint reader (if need be) & if your Simple Pass Software isn't working:
Click here to download a different version of the same software.
Let me know how this goes.
If you feel my post solved your issue, please click “Accept as Solution”, it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!

Thanks for your reply @kumar0307.
Couple questions:
The download link you provided link drivers/software w/publis dates in 2015 and 2013...just seemed odd to install SW/drivers that are so old, potentially not up-to-date in terms of security, etc.
In any case, the issue actually stopped happening (at least so far) shortly after I posted my question - maybe my computer heard me complaining and decided to be nicer. So at this point I'm going to leave things be and will try your suggestion if I have another incident with the fingerprint sensor.
Something else odd today, however, related to the fingerprint sensor. The Support Assistant tells me it has an update for the fingerprint sensor, but the version is older than what I have currently installed. See included pic. Why is Support Assistant trying to install an older driver version?
Currently installed: 6.0.22.1111
Support Asst wants to install: 6.0.14.1111
Thanks!

The links that I shared was for the original driver for this device. You may always use the HPSA to install the latest updates or go to HP Support site
NOTE: Updates aren't mandatory, you only install them if there some issue on the PC or if there are new features being released in the upcoming updates.
The update on the HPSA that occurred could be a generic update for the entire series of this product line.
Glad to know that the PC is working fine now.
Keep me posted for any other assistance.
