Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello. So, my fingerprint scanner hasn't been working for some days, at first the computer didn't even recognize the scanner, then after some upgrades it fortunately did, but still it recognizes that it's working but effectively it does not. When I turn on my computer it gives me three options to access it: password, PIN and fingerprint scanner; the first two work of course, but when I try to use the last one everything seems normal except that when I put my finger on it it acts like there is no finger to scan. I am quite confused as my device never broke or got hit, fell, or something like that, so I do not think it is for this reason. What could it be?

First thing to try is to simply uninstall the fingerprint biometric driver and Restart the computer.

Doing so will reload the driver from the system.  If the issue was just "tangled", this will fix it.

and / or

If you have not already done so,

Consider manually  updating (download-save-install) any other HP Drivers for 2019 listed in your computer's Software and Drivers Website support.

Open the website page and click "Open all" > Search the page for drivers dated "2019" (year noted as of this writing).  Install each driver / software "one at a time".

After drivers / software are installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Reminder:

  1. Update the BIOS manually (download-save-install)
  2. Update the BIOS by itself (not with other updates)
  3. Update the BIOS only after you have backed up your most critical data "somewhere" other than on the computer (cloud, USB stick, "something")
  4. Update the BIOS with the notebook connected to AC power - do not disconnect the power during the process
  5. Update the BIOS only when you can complete the procedure without leaving the computer - more than one person has reported that "someone" in the house rebooted or unplugged the computer in the middle of a BIOS update.  Doing so can kill your computer.

(Newer) Fingerprint Sensor Driver

There is a fingerprint driver for your sensor device that is a bit newer than the driver in your computer's Software and Drivers Website  .

Version=5.5.15.1102

/ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp96501-97000/sp96874.exe

Download and save the new fingerprint reader software.

Remove the driver (uninstall) the reader driver from the Device Manager:

Open Device Manager > Biometrics > Right-Click Properties > Uninstall

Open File Explorer .

Navigate to the folder in which you saved the downloaded fingerprint software package (Downloads).

Double-tap on the installation package to install the software.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Information file for the driver:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp96501-97000/sp96874.html
