Thunderbolt Dock 230W G2

This dock was recently purchased together with an HP ZBook 15 G3, and I want to drive two 4K monitors with it. When I try to do that, the laptop can't even boot. Generally my tendency is to look for a firmware update for such a product (this dock) but I find NO information on HP's support site for this model. There's a tiny bit of support files for the lower power version of the Thunderbolt G2 dock, but not firmware.

 

The online presence of this dock model is pretty much non-existent at this point.

Hi,

 

I came across this post when I was searching for a firmware update for this docking station. Me and my colleague have  been testing this dock for about one week and we just have issues with it. I called the HP support today and created a ticket regarding the following.

 

* Resolution issues. I have one 4K monitor and one Full HD but I only get Full HD on my 4K monitor when using two screens.

* High noice from the built in fan.

* Computer is going in to sleep mode when connecting the dock.

* Only one monitor is working when connecting the dock (for example when I am coming back from a meeting and connects the dock). I have to unplug the power cable from my primary monitor to get it to work.

 

Seems like I have to go back to my HP USB-C G4 dock until a firmware is released. I have updated every driver for my Pro x2 612 G2 that is available for it. The support agent at HP told me to increase the "Video Memory Size" in the BIOS but that didn't solve my resolution issues.

 

I will give you an update when I have received an reply from HP.

No update yet unfortunately. The last time I spoke to the HP support (like two weeks ago) they said that the ticket was moved to second line. I don't know what is taking so long. We have stopped purchasing this docking station until there's a firmware update for it.

 

What kind of issues do you have and what computer model do you have?

Thanks for the quick reply.

 

We using HP 1050-G1 model.

 

Issues we have seen:

- Windows Logon screen is blank, only mouse course(But if you write password and press enter, the screen wakes up, when the logon session done)
- Fan noise
- It not always show both monitors, so user need to unplug and plug in the dock again. So it finds out that it has dual monitor.

The bad news is that it doesn't address the fan noise, which is my biggest issue with the dock.
