HP Pavilion Laptop 14-ce0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I shut down my laptop using the shutdown command in Windows 10.  The machine shuts down and the screen and power button go black.  However there is a light flashing on the side of the laptop by the power socket that continues to flash.  Is there a way of turning this off, or is it safe to leave it flashing?  Many thanks.  Jane

Hey there! @JaneColq, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand after the laptop shuts down, you see a charging led blinking next to the charging port on the PC.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your laptop?

Have you tried checking with a different adapter?

Are you able to boot into BIOS on your PC?

Please share the product number of your PC to assist you better.

Excellent description and a great diagnosis done. It is greatly appreciated.

Try connecting the AC adapter to the wall outlet first and then connect it to the laptop and check if the issue persists.

Try updating the BIOS on the PC to the latest version.

Check if the DC or charging port pin is loose or bent on your laptop.

Run a system diagnostics test on your PC and check if the hardware components are working fine.

Also, try the steps recommended below.

To perform a hard reset on a computer with a removable battery, use the following steps:
Turn off the computer.
Disconnect the computer from any port replicator or docking station.
Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.
Remove the battery from the battery compartment.
Press and hold down the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors that protect the memory.
Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook computer, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.
Press the Power button to turn on the computer.
If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, then press the Enter key.
After reconnecting each of the peripheral devices, run Windows Update and HP Support Assistant to update all device drivers.

If the issue still persists after trying out the steps It could be an issue with the AC adapter or DC port on the laptop which could have gone faulty.

I'll keep an eye out for your response.

I hope you have a great day! 🙂
