- My device is HP15 bs146tu having standard 4GB RAM. Can I add 8GB in slot 2? Will it work in flex mode i.e, 4GB in primary stick plus 4GB in new stick in DUal Channel and Extra 4GB of new stick in single channel? OR should I add equal 4 GB in other slot for better performance (dual mode) ?
- Please also suggest compatible RAM models.

Hi, @diwakar001 your system's maximum RAM memory is 16GB. It has two slots meaning you can add (2 x 8GB) memory.
You can find a list of compatible RAM here.

Hi, @diwakar001
To answer your original question...
Yes, you can add an 8 GB memory chip in the empty slot, and you will have 12 GB of memory running in single channel mode as it is now.
In order for the memory to run in the higher performing dual channel mode, you need to install the memory in matching capacities (2 x 4 GB, 2 x 8 GB...)
So, what is better...2 x 4 GB of memory running in dual channel mode, or 12 GB running in single channel mode?
I think most folks will tell you that 'more is better.'
Not to mention the fact that if you buy a 4 GB chip now and then decide you want more memory, you will have wasted your money buying a 4 GB chip only to replace it with an 8 GB or 16 GB chip.
Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates that 2 x 8 GB of memory is supported.

Since your notebook has an Intel 8th generation core processor, even though the manual indicates that only 16 GB of memory is supported, the report you ran is more accurate.
Your notebook can 'unofficially' support 2 x 16 GB of memory,
