My HP Envy computer is a replacement from HP for a previous model which had substandard hinges that could not be repaired. This computer developed the same problem within 6 months, and I sent it back in under warranty where they "repaired" it. The same thing happened again, a few years later (after babying the computer which has never left the house). Unfortunately, it is out of warranty - just as HP had hoped I surmise, so they could stiff me on it.
I ended up taking the whole thing apart and repairing the hinges, and what I found was that the previous tech at HP who worked on it didn't even put all the screws back in for the case as they were completely missing - a real shoddy job. I ended up fixing the hinges myself which had come detached from the body. HP wanted to charge me over $400 for this as well as replacing the screen which has failing pixels all over it. Oh, they did also offer to help me shop for a new computer. Yeah, right. Never again, HP, never again. I will buy any other brand after this junk.
