HP EliteBook 8470p
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
I’ve been helping a friend set up a GTX 1050 egpu on an HP Elite Book 8470p. It has a quad-core i5 (specific model is unknown), 8 gigabytes of ddr3 ram, and an HD 5000 integrated graphics processor. When he connects the 1050, which is in an exp gdc Beast Expresscard pcie dock and turns on the laptop, the computer stays at a black screen and fails to post. I have read some things that suggest using a GTX 1050 is not the best choice for egpu setups, but I have also read about people managing to make them work after using older drivers. The computer works fine with the graphics card removed though. He has updated his bios to the most recent version supported, and even gone as far as to try the Mini PCI-E version of the dock with the graphics card and an old AMD card as well. I can’t find anything online about how to fix the black screen no post issue, but what I have found seems to suggest it should just work or it’s a possible bios block out. If anyone has any idea how to fix this, we would both greatly appreciate it.

He connects it through the expresscard port on the side of the laptop. The connector is expresscard to hdmi

Those ports are not fast enough to drive an eGPU, you need USB-C port which is compatible with Thunderbolt 3.

We saw a few videos and guides showing that it was possible to do so with the same laptop/port and a couple similar ones,  so we assumed we"d be able to get the same deal. Is there any possible way to get it working with what we have or are we out of luck?
