Hello community,
Hope a technical person answers me. Yesterday, my HP laptop started making funny sounds like a bubble noise. I figured it was the fan so I cleaned it up and I dusted everything. Today, it's still making the sound. Not repeatedly but it flashes once in a while. I've had the laptop for close to 4 years now and only changed the battery. What could be wrong?
It's really worrisome. Please help

Hi @carerynmirekuaa,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're dealing with an unusual noise from your HP Pavilion x360, and since you've already cleaned the fan and dusted the laptop, let's explore a few possible causes and troubleshooting steps:
Please try the following Troubleshoots steps.
1. Turn off the Unit.
2. Disconnect the AC adapter.
3. Remove any discs from the disc drive.
4. Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.
5. Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.
6. Disconnect the AC adapter press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
7. Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.
Step 2
Turn off the unit and please press and hold the Windows key + letter B key and the power button together for 30 seconds after 30 seconds, 1st release the power button but keep holding the Windows key and B key for ten more seconds and then release these two keys If done correctly, you will see the display flashing once. Please attempt it thrice as this step and Restart the unit
Step3
The unit has to be turned off, Press Win+ V while holding these two keys then Press the Power button, continue to hold all three keys for 30 seconds and then release the Power button first and then release these two keys Please attempt it thrice and then you may get a Pop-Up CMOS Check and it will restart the unit
Even if you don't get a Pop-up restart the unit manually after 3 attempts.
Check for Loose Parts: After cleaning, it’s possible something didn’t get reassembled tightly, so double-check for any loose screws or components, especially around the fan and inside the laptop casing.
Hard Drive Issues: Sometimes, hard drives can make clicking or bubbling noises when they start to have issues, especially if they’re older. Given that your laptop is nearly four years old, the hard drive may be wearing out. Run a disk check to see if any errors are detected:
- Press Win + X and choose Windows PowerShell (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Type chkdsk /f and press Enter. Follow any prompts to schedule the scan and restart your computer.
Fan Bearing or Motor Wear: Although you've cleaned the fan, it could be that the fan’s motor or bearings are starting to wear out, which can lead to unusual sounds. You might consider replacing the fan if the noise persists or intensifies over time.
Speaker or Audio Issues: Occasionally, audio drivers or applications can cause sounds that resemble popping or bubbling. To rule this out:
- Mute the speakers and see if the sound stops.
- Update your audio drivers through Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers > [Your audio driver] > Update driver.
Run HP Diagnostics: HP laptops have built-in diagnostics tools that can help check hardware health. HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures
- Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly to access the HP Hardware Diagnostics menu.
- Run a System Test to see if any hardware issues are detected.

Thank you very much for this comprehensive feedback. The sound started before I cleaned the fan and it still persists after cleaning. I have no peripherals connected except the charger. I have performed all the necessary Windows, Bios updates and still have the pop sound occurring.
I would try the other suggestions. A little correction, I checked and realized the laptop is 6 years old not 4 years as I initially stated. Sorry about that.
I would come back with an update after trying all your other suggestions.
Thank you very much for reaching out.

Dear Mr. Gaya,
Thank you for your response. I have tried all your solutions but the sound still persists. The system test had all the components PASSED. The chkdsk couldn't execute because they said it was in process. The CMOS check didn't give the 4 or 5 part you suggested.
I am thinking maybe it's a problem with the Windows software. I don't know what to do.
Thank you very much for your help.
