@Dave14084

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

Riddle_Decipher is at your service.

As I Understand there's a slow performance issue with the laptop,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Have you looked for the BIOS update on the HP website?

(Click here to find and install it, if you haven't)

When was the last time it worked without these issues?

That said, The best way to resolve this issue with slow performance is by using the HP Guided Troubleshooter:

Click here to access it (simply select your description of the issue from the bottom of the screen to gain access to the next set of steps that should resolve your concern).

You could also Click here to troubleshoot no boot issues.

Let me know if those steps worked for you,

If they did, that's awesome!

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck

Sorry abou delay - illness.

I can find no BIOS or driver updates for this model using W7 64bit or W10 64bit.

Current BIOS F.07

BIOS recognises 8GB but boot fails with 'kernel security check failure'

I would reiterate runs W10 OK, just a bit slow with only the original 3GB of RAM

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

I understand there are no bios updates available for your PC, however, don't worry as I have a few more steps up my sleeve,

here's what you need to know about the error message:

The “Kernel Security Check failure” in Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 can appear for different kinds of reasons like memory issues, virus infections of the Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 but the most common is that the drivers you were using for the previous versions of Windows are not compatible with the new Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 thus giving you the “Kernel Security Check failure”

The best way to fix this issue is to run an anti-virus scan to ensure it's virus free and then run an extensive system test using the hardware diagnostics tool: Click here for instructions.

If the error message is fixed after the virus scan and yet the computer is running slow: Click here to improve your system performance.

That said, I suggest you check your user manual guide to understand what upgrade options you have for this PC: Click here to view.

here's the memory tested and supported by your PC:

2 customer-accessible/upgradable SODIMM slots

Supports dual-channel memory DDR3, 1066 MHz

Supports up to 8 GB of system memory

I hope this helps,

Deep scans proved system clean.

Installed diagnostic software and fast test and extensive test both stalled on memory scan.

That was with 2x4GB hynix - vendore kindly sent me 2x4GB Samsung.  Same result.

Have I just got the wrong spec RAM?
