G71 340US notebook
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I was checking if my G71 340US notebook is OK to upgrade to windows 7 which I understand will finish 26Jul2016. I read the web HP requirements but they do not make sense for me as I am non expert. I understand HP does not warranty notebooks bought prior to 2013 will work and I bought mine in Nov 2009. My PRODUCT NUMBER IS: VM114UA#ABA and the product name is HPG71 notebook PC windows 7 (64 bit). I also saw other people in this forum faced problems with sound apparently resolved by only the single person who posted the message, other problems with internet conexion and crashed system. Can somebody please tell me if I am ok or is best not to attempt migration. Thanks

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the problem you're up against is that Microsoft only supplies drivers with the most basic functionality, and what you really need for FULL functionality is the specialized drivers written for the specific hardware found in your HP PC -- and unfortunately, there are no HP Win10 drivers for your PC. HP only guarantees Win10 compatibility for machines made after August, 2013. HP does not have any schedule indicating when, or IF, they will be producing drivers for the older machines.

This means that your PC is most likely NEVER going to be fully functional under Win10 because the drivers is needs for full functionality simply do not exist!

Personally, I would advise against doing the Upgrade, especially since I did that on an HP DV6 laptop running Win7 and the Upgrade trashed the laptop so badly, I had to restore it to working condition using HP Recovery Media.

Good Luck

I know this is a rather late response, but I am typing this reply on an old G62-340US after installing Windows 10. It runs fine except the 4GB of ram I have installed is recognized by the BIOS and Windows, but shows as only having 1.74 available. Still working on that issue, I've tried the recommended solutions to no avail.
