Hello.  I have an HP 17" laptop (4F7E7KM4), but my installed video editing program gives me the warning that the GPU is not good enough, and the system keeps crashing.  Can I install more power inside the laptop, or as I see in other discussions, is that not possible because my card is soldered in place?  In that case, is an external GPU possible?  I don't have a lightning port but do have a SS USB port.  Thank you for any information.  Much appreciated.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Upgrading GPU in HP Laptops!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Generally, upgrading the GPU in HP laptops can be quite challenging, as most modern laptops have integrated graphics cards that are soldered onto the motherboard, meaning they cannot be replaced or upgraded. This is likely the case with your HP laptop model (4F7E7KM4).

Options for Increasing Graphics Performance:

External GPU (eGPU): If your laptop has Thunderbolt 3 ports, it would be possible to connect an external GPU for increased performance. However, since you mentioned your laptop does not have a lightning or Thunderbolt port, standard USB ports might not support eGPU setups effectively due to bandwidth limitations.

Usage of SS USB Port: There are some solutions for eGPU that claim to support USB, but these typically won't offer the same performance increase as a Thunderbolt-connected eGPU. It might be worth exploring these options if speed and performance aren’t a critical requirement for your video editing tasks.

Software Optimization and Settings: Sometimes optimizing the settings in your video editing software to work within the capabilities of your current GPU can help mitigate crashes and performance issues. Lowering preview quality, disabling unnecessary effects during editing, or adjusting the resolution may prove beneficial.

RAM Upgrade: If possible, upgrading the RAM of your laptop can sometimes help overall system stability and performance, especially during heavy tasks such as video editing.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
