HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-dk0056wm
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Pavillion Gaming Laptop is fast until I plug in the charger. It turns super slow and laggy and i cant play games while charging which is kind of weird. Shouldnt it be the other way since the pc needs power? I dont know what the issue is I have tried different chargers different outlets and its still the same.

Hi @EMAN315,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop is experiencing slowness only when plugged in, there could be several factors contributing to this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.

  • Power Plan Settings: Check your laptop's power plan settings. Sometimes, the power plan may be set to a mode that limits performance when plugged in to conserve energy. Make sure your power plan is set to "High Performance" or a similar mode that allows the laptop to use its full processing power.
  • Background Processes: Sometimes, certain background processes or applications might be using up system resources when your laptop is plugged in. Use Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to monitor running processes and see if any particular application is causing high CPU or memory usage. You might need to close unnecessary applications or update software that's causing performance issues.
  • Thermal Throttling: If your laptop is overheating when plugged in, it might be thermal throttling to prevent damage. Check if the laptop's cooling system is functioning properly and that there's proper airflow. You might also consider using a laptop cooling pad to help with heat dissipation.
  • Power Adapter Issues: Sometimes, using a faulty power adapter can lead to reduced laptop performance. Ensure that you are using the correct power adapter that came with the laptop, and make sure it's functioning properly. Using an inadequate power adapter can lead to the laptop not receiving enough power for optimal performance.
  • Driver Updates: Outdated or incorrect drivers can cause performance issues. Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your laptop's hardware components, especially the graphics card and chipset drivers. You can download drivers from the official HP support website.
  • Windows Updates: Ensure that your operating system is up to date with the latest Windows updates. These updates often include bug fixes and performance improvements that could address the slowness issue.
  • Power Settings: Check the advanced power settings in your chosen power plan. Look for options related to processor performance and system cooling. Adjust these settings to ensure maximum performance when plugged in.
  • Malware and Antivirus: Perform a full system scan for malware or viruses. Malicious software can often slow down a computer's performance. Use a reputable antivirus program to scan your system and remove any threats.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
