Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Lately, maybe after a Windows 10 update, I started getting a notification that the battery on my laptop was low. It is a replacement battery that I either got early this year or late last year. I also replaced the adapter.

I had replaced them since the original battery stopped charging. Also, recently, after going into sleep mode, the battery started discharging, but when i unplugged the charger, then plugging it back in, the battery would recharge. However, Saturday, the 6th, I got a warning when restarting my system that the battery was low, and did not have the same capacity. I also noticed, that after unplugging  the charger, the battery was at first depleted completely after sleep mode one time, then after resetting the computer system, and plugging it in after 5 minutes, it was charged 100%. Now, it also keeps staying at 100%. The diagnostics do not detect the battery or adapter. I ran the online diagnostics, and they still do not detect the battery. However, both diagnostics tests say the battery is charged 100%. This does not make sense. I want to note that the diagnostic tests on my laptop also get cancelled for power tests. Also, for some reason, I am not able to update the diagnostics tests once I download them. it just downloads, and seems like it starts to install, or does, but it did not update them.

Hi@JoshuaCaleb,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Let's try reinstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery

1) In the search box, type, and open “Device Manager”.

2) Expand “Batteries”.

3) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

4) Click on “Uninstall”.

5) At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver

6) Shutdown the computer.

7) Remove the battery for a minute and then put it back in.

😎 When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.

9) Go to Device Manager.

10) Expand Batteries.

11) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

12) Click "Search automatically for updated driver software". Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.

Also, try updating the computer -

Step 1 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type, and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 2 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type, and open HP Support Assistant.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Battery Does not Power Notebook or Hold a Charge

If the issue persists, Let's Run a battery test using F2 (during restart), if the test failed:

Check with an alternate battery.

I see what you are saying, but this issue seems like it was more prevalent after I recently updated Windows. Prior to the update, I did notice that sometimes the battery would discharge slightly, but it would also recharge when I unplugged the adapter, and plugged it back in. I may have also ran the battery test one time, and it worked, but I am not sure. These are third-party replacement products. I have also noticed that on this model of laptop, that I cannot take the battery out for one minute easily, then put it back in. Last time, the bottom cover of the laptop had to be removed, tons of screws were removed from it, as well s from where the battery was, and possibly other things. It seems probable, that  there are hardware parts that need disassembled and reassembled in order to use it. It is not like some mobile phones when you can just pop out the battery and pop it back in. I don't know if some HP laptops are like that. I am not sure if that is what you mean or not. I sort of wonder if windows update caused the system to falsely make the battery read that way, or if the battery is really faulty since it is third-party. obviously, the charger still works, and the battery also shows fully charged, so something is off, but when the system restarts, it always says it cannot store at full capacity, or something like that. the tests also are cancelled for both parts. I do know that both of them were recommended for this model of your manufactured computer systems, despite being third-party.

@JoshuaCaleb,

`We have done the basic troubleshooting as per the document and the notebook needs to checked taking remote access so that get to know it's a hardware or software issue.

I'd suggest you contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your computer or HP Chat Support Team

What will remote access do, and what can chat support do? I am aware that since this laptop is past the warranty date, that phone support is paid. This morning, the charger temporarily did not work, and the battery said about 97%, then went to 91%. While it was 91%, it shut down. I unplugged it, then plugged it back in. Apparently, it had went to a low-power mode, and i was able to go back into windows while it charged. It was 8% at the time, and temporarily started charging. Then it stopped at 16%. Then I unplugged it again, and plugged it back in, and  it went to 100%. something is not accurate obviously. Please let me kow what remote access and chat can do. I do have an unopened HP, but I need to figure out something that is wrong with my computer that is causing another problem before transferring problems. I do believe that Windows Update has removed multiple update options such as drivers, and various software which seems to have mysteriously disappeared. I do know that the original webcam software, and the OEM DVD player software were uninstalled by windows update, and office 2007 was made hidden (but still accessible) due to windows update. I think the battery may be malfunctioning, but I am not sure if there is also some hardware issue related to windows update. Please let me know what re-enabling remote access and what the chat option for HP help might allow them to do. I think that at this point, paying for service will not help at all, but the best thing would be if someone can help me troubleshoot this issue, and possibly figure out a way so it will charge, and if anyone knows a way to find a hidden virus that causes files to open by themselves and tabs on my browser to close, and possibly delay typing, that will help.
