  • Laptop model: HP 15-da0004ne
    Operating System: Windows 10 Pro / Windows 11 (tested both)

    Problem summary:
    My laptop randomly starts pausing/playing videos, and sometimes the sound bar pops up as if I’m pressing the volume key (F10). The cursor also stops moving for a second during this.

    It seems like the system is getting “ghost key presses” from the internal keyboard (for example, spacebar or F10 being triggered automatically).

    However, when I go into BIOS, the ghost press problem completely disappears — so it doesn’t happen outside Windows.
    I even reinstalled a clean, genuine copy of Windows from Microsoft’s website, but the issue still occurs.

    When I connect an external USB keyboard and disable (or try to disable) the internal one, the problem goes away entirely.

    So I’m confused whether this is a hardware issue (keyboard short circuit) or software/driver conflict related to Windows or HP drivers.

    I’d like to confirm which one it is and how to fix it permanently.

    Fresh Windows installation (both 10 & 11, genuine ISO)

    Tried updating touchpad and keyboard drivers

    Problem disappears in BIOS

    Works fine with external keyboard

    💬 What I need help with:

    How to confirm for sure whether the internal keyboard hardware is faulty or if this is a driver/software glitch.

    If it’s a driver problem, which exact driver should I install or remove?

    If it’s hardware, is replacing the internal keyboard the only solution?

This is the most critical piece of evidence. The BIOS is a low-level environment with no Windows drivers. If the ghost presses occurred due to a fundamental electrical fault on the keyboard's circuit board, they would very likely still happen in the BIOS. The fact that they don't points the finger away from a simple short circuit and towards a more nuanced hardware issue that is triggered by the operating system.

Based on your detailed description, it appears that the issue is likely hardware-related, specifically with the internal keyboard. The fact that the ghost key presses disappear in BIOS and resolve when you disable or disconnect the internal keyboard strongly suggests a hardware fault rather than a software or driver problem.
