Hi, I have today received a hard drive caddy for my laptop, the idea being that I would fit a SSD drive and use the original 1tb 5400 as my storage.  I was recommended a HDD caddy and it seemed easy to fit however, after securing the hard drive and installing the caddy into the optical drive bay, the machine will not recognise the drive.  I have tried restarting the machine and ensuring the drive is seated ok, also checking the HDD is in working condition, which it is.  There is no sign of my laptop detecting the drive.  Can you advise if there are any Bios settings that need to be changed, or is this a plug and play device that should be auto detected?

This is one of the reasons I reluctantly suggest an optical bay caddy. The manufacturing quality varies quite a bit as you see some that are sold for very low prices. Also be sure there is not a switch of some kind inside the caddy to turn off the eject sensor.

Hi, hey, no problem, it worked!  I had actually popped one of my broken drives in and didn't realise!  This is one of the hazards of being blind I guess!  I have so much trouble seeing stuff when working on my machine, but still got to have a go!  I finally found one of my good drives that WAS in working condition and as soon as I installed the caddy again it worked fine.  Couldn't belive how dozy I was.

Hey, but thanks for replying, your recommendation was spot on.
