HP Pavilion g7-2240us Notebook PC upgrades to Windows 10.
Looking into this SSD
Crucial MX500 2TB SSD 3D TLC NAND SATA III 6Gb/s 2.5" Internal Solid SDD
Could you please also give me some other suggestions as far as what SDD to weigh out my options.
Would it be compatible and what would I need to upgrade it. Thanks!

Any SATA 2.5 inch SSD will mount in the place where the SATA mechanical hard drive is now. You may need some kind of shim as the SSD might be thinner than the hard drive but all the mounting points and connectors are still the same. The Crucial MX500 is OK but you can purchase any brand of 2.5 inch SATA SSD. Samsung, etc.

SATA 2.5 inch SSD is a mature technology. There is not a lot of difference among them in performance or, really, quality. NVME that is not true so much. My personal go to is the Samsung Evo Series but these are kind of a flagship top of the market choice:
