Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all. I am reaching out for assistance regarding an issue with my laptop. It suddenly refused to boot up and remained stuck on the loading screen for approximately 17 hours. Concerned about the situation, I decided to run a system diagnostic test.

The test revealed that my hard drive had failed a Short DST (Drive Self-Test) check. The failure ID provided by the diagnostic tool is: 9AN4HX-000CAF-XD7W3A-60QC03.  Could you please help me understand what this failure ID indicates and advise on the next steps I should take to resolve this issue? I am particularly concerned about data recovery and whether the hard drive needs to be replaced. I would appreciate any guidance or recommendations you can provide.

Thank you for your assistance

Hi:

Enter the required information at the link below and it should provide a report of the code and the most likely way to fix the problem:

HP Customer Support - Service Center

Normally you will have to install a new hard drive and reinstall the operating system when one of those 24-character failure codes are generated.

If your notebook came with a 2.5" mechanical hard drive, you may want to replace it with a much better performing 2.5" SATA solid state drive (SSD).

Below is the link to the service manual where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure:

You can reinstall W10 on the new drive by making a bootable USB installation flash drive with the Microsoft media creation tool from the link below:

Download Windows 10

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page:
