Hello. My laptop has recently encountered a problem the other day. I was playing Magic Arena which caused my whole system to lock up. I tried ctrl-alt-del to access the menu and shut it down safely. it sat for about 5 minutes before I realized it was completely bricked so I had to manually power down. When I rebooted the shstemz it came to the login screen, however when I clicked to login nothing popped up. I kept trying and there was no login box. I then tried shutting it down but the power button would not pop up. I had to hold the button to power down. This repeated about 4 or 5 times before I decided to try a safe mode boot. The next time I logged in nothing would appear but the hp logo and the loading circle. I kept trying but nothing. I then rebooted again and managed to get into system diagnostics. I ran and everything checked out but the hdd which I was made aware failed because of the SMART (301) disk and sudden power off. When I ran thr diagnostics I came up with error (9BVURA-88T9SN-MFPX7G-608A03). I wound up buying an external hdd but then was wondering a few things
1)it's not under warranty so I won't get a replacement drive, how much would it cost me and what model should I buy if I do it myed
2) I have a lot of important data on there that i need to recover but never had fullt backed up so I still need to access the hdd. How much would it cost hp to repair for me if decide not to it myself
3) is it even doable to swap one in and run off the external to boot off of and then transfer info off the broken.
I hope i provided enough info as I'm really in need of help.

Hi:
The error code reported, Hard Disk 1 SMART Hard Drive Detects Imminent Failure, means that the hard drive is about to fail, or has failed, needs to be replaced, and the operating system reinstalled.
If you can still get into Windows, back up any files you need to save onto a portable hard drive.
Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

After you replace the hard drive you can reinstall W10 for free by using the media creation tool at the link below to create a bootable W10 USB installation flash drive.
After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page.
If you can't get into windows, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to recover any files from the drive, but you could purchase a SATA to USB adapter, plug one end into the hard drive, and the other into a working PC's USB port and see if you can read/copy any files from the drive.
Since I don't work for or represent HP, I have no idea how much they would charge you to replace the hard drive, but it would be a whole lot cheaper to take it to a local PC repair shop to replace it, if after reading the service guide you find that you would not want to undertake the project.
