Hello,

I have inquiry about would it work if i replaced my HDD ( MARSHAL MAL2500SA-T54 )500gb that is smart Sata II, because it's failing, and replace with it with another HDD ( Western Digital Blue ) 500 gb Sata III, or it wouldn't work out, and if I can increase the capacity of HDD or it's limited to the 500gb as the specs have set, and if I want to add an extra internal SSD ( Crucial MX500 ) 250gb too, that will be in my HP Elite book 8440p ( i7-740 QM and 8gb rams ), so I hope some one will help me out with this, as i read the specs and the max HDD is 500gb but Sata II and max SSD would be 256gb

Thank You

Hi:

A SATA III SSD will work fine, but only at the SATA II speed.

I installed an Intel 530 SATA 3 SSD in my older HP Elitebook 6930p (the model one year older than yours) and it works great.

Hello,

Have you installed it as main Disk, or it was extra internal disk ?

I replaced the internal 2.5" mechanical hard drive with the SATA 3 SSD.

I don't know what the performance of an external SSD would be since the USB ports are only USB 2.0.

Internally, the SATA 3 SSD provides a considerable performance boost over the mechanical hard drive.
